My Map
Every fall millions of students head in to schools and here the same questions..."What did you do on your summer vacation? Where did you go on your summer vacation?" Students are usually asked to write about or talk about these topics. This really used as a time filler by many teachers and/or a way to make crucial connections with students. But what have the kids really learned? Now my idea is to have students create a Google map and write brief explanations of each place maker. Students that did not "do anything" or "go any where" could make a map of their home town and place markers on place throughout the town and explain why this place was significant. All student would be able to do this activity and they could truly learn something. They would learn: 1. how to create a Google map, and 2. about their classmates.
